Its charming name reflects its mood. Tailor-made for couples wanting some peace and quiet and lovebirds looking for a hideaway where they can whisper sweet nothings, our inn is run by friendly, welcoming people and captivates its guests with its charms.

Like many of the grand summer homes in La Malbaie, the house where La Romance has found its niche was designed by the famous British architect Charles Warren, to whom the surrounding area owes much of its architectural heritage. It was built in 1897 for an American senator named Fleming.

Two storeys high and entirely covered with cedar shingles, the villa with its large picture windows fits perfectly into its setting overlooking the river, a trait typical of most Warren designs. Guests enjoy views of the river and garden from the two large verandas at the front of the inn, one of which has been converted into a sunroom. The interior has been skillfully renovated with the affection and respect of those who look back on the past with fondness. A couple from Matagami can take the credit for restoring the house so skilfully.

In 1984, Louisette and André Pilotte and their three daughters discovered the house—and fell in love with it on the spot. They bought it outright, then set about transforming the summer residence into a house that could be lived in all year round. After two years of work and investment, the villa opened its doors as a family business in 1986, and quickly became a closely guarded secret of bed and breakfast enthusiasts. Every year since, another room has been redecorated or restored as the Pilottes share their love of beautiful things with their guests.

Francine, the youngest sister, has now taken over the reins of the family business, but the warm and friendly service at Auberge La Romance remains unchanged.

Auberge La Romance boasts eight bedrooms with a fireplace. All rooms have their own private bathrooms, and seven have whirlpool baths. The suite comes with a double whirlpool bath and can be accessed by people with reduced mobility.

Our spacious living room offers bar service. Relax and enjoy the soothing background music as you decide on where to go for a romantic table d'hôte dinner at a local restaurant.

And what can we say about the buffet breakfast? You'll discover it soon enough for yourself! It's just another of the pleasures at Auberge La Romance, where abundance and refinement characterize the presentation of our dishes, most of which are prepared on site.
